Then What?

Whenever I visit my cousin I end up staying there for a day or two.And I don’t recall how goodnight stories with my nephew became a tradition since I am not much of a kids person. When it comes to talking to little ones I will be the last person standing in the queue. There is nothing personal about it but I just don’t know what to talk. Luring them to the fantasy world seems unfair to me but attacking their tender hearts with reality also sounds brutal to me. But since I visit his place once a month I enjoy telling stories to the little one.

The most difficult part about this storytelling session is he thinks there is always more to it. And as soon as I am about the end the story he hits me with his “What happened later?” And I sit there either wondering what really might have happened later or just stopping myself from telling him that nothing happens and the protagonists life goes on. I remember asking the same question to my aunt and Ajji whenever they told me a story. Since the story is entirely made up or from any book or movie I try to add some details on my own to answer his questions. But then I wonder would I bring injustice to the little unripe story?

This remind me of one of Tagore’s quotes

We only cared for the truth. And our unsophisticated little hearts knew well where the Crystal Palace of Truth lay and how to reach it. But to-day we are expected to write pages of facts, while the truth is simply this: "There was a King"
