Whistling my way through the streets of Bombay & thanking Rafi sahab & Geeta Dutt for the evergreen melodies…If you ask me, I am what some people will call a ‘city-person’. Connecting to nature and all is fine for a few days. But I find my peace amongst the crowd. At times it gets annoying but for 4 years when I was in Goa, almost every week I used think about my city. From ‘train rukne ke baad utrega kya?’ to ‘are puri bus khali hai aage badho!’ my city never failed to challenge me. Finding you little space on a crowded Marine Drive just to sit and relax with your friends like every other Mumbaikar is how we manage to live here. That’s a thing about cities, it belongs to every other person who live there. There is something about it that keeps me on the toes and put sense into this meaningless hustle. When you arrive in your city after 1 year and see empty roads at 7 o’clock in the evening it’s obvious to get your eyes watery. It’s maybe ‘just getting your way out of the crowd for stationary shopping at Masjid’ or roaming around the streets in fort side. Whether its evening chitchats with your ‘train-group’ or ‘standing at the door disobeying the instructions of railway lady’ It’s all fun. It’s a city where even stranger will bitch about the government with you. The thing is people are busy with lives here but in the little time they have they manage to be nice each other. I have lived in 3 cities in India. And each has given me wonderful experiences and people for life.
I can’t wait to explore every city in this world. Because I am pretty sure every city has its own way of welcoming others. And no matter where I go, I will always yearn to be back to Mumbai.
