Mich tumhi Waheeda

The title refers to one of the most famous stories by marathi author 'V.P.Kale'.Ironically these days I have been working with a media company which hosts an application where fans get to meet their favourite movie stars by paying a good amount of money. Being in that environment I come across many fan messages about how much they love these stars and how they can do anything to meet them. Today after lunch when I was sitting at my desk a thought came to me making it's way through the after-lunch sleepiness, reminding me of Waheeda. For those who don't know. Waheeda Rehman is a famous Indian Actress and one of the most beautiful star of her time.

In this story named 'Mich tumchi Waheeda' Vapu (V.P.Kale) has beautifully described how big deal it is for a middle class person to be able to meet the famous movie star. The protagonist of the story is a married middle age common man living in chawl of Mumbai who wins a lottery and as a prize gets a chance to meet Waheeda. The story also takes you through a half riped marriage story (thats what i would liked to call a 20 year old marriage). After going to the famous actress's huge bungalow and trying to feel lucky to see the glimpse of her, when the protagonist return to his middle class home and average looking kind hearted wife, she feels happy. After all who wouldn't get jealous if her partner wears a new shirt and puts on expensive perfume just to meet a movie star. When she sees him all nervous after coming home. She tries to cheer him up by putting on a new saree and cooking a delicious meal and says 'who cares if Waheeda doesn't have time to meet you! I am your Waheeda '

You see, after going through pile of fan messages on a daily basis none of them make my heart skip a bit. (I know they ain't for me, :-P but still!) Why a ton of these messages makes no sense to me in front of a mediocre, illogical, sweetest and jealous dialogue of a middle age Indian wife.
