Halloween For real
Back when we were kids, we used to have a Halloween party at our family friend’s place. It wasn’t as hyped as it is in European countries but it was okay. At the end of the party, we all used to watch horror movie. Half of the night used to be wasted deciding which movie to watch. Horror movies never interested me. But the fun part of this entire day was the costume party. Many of the kids used to wear the perfect mediocre white sheet with two holes, some of the others used to dress up as superheroes. I on the other hand used to be Batman for all the two year I went there. Later they moved to other city and eventually no other family would host Halloween party since belonging to different culture. This October when I was on the phone with my cousin his kid was annoying him on the background about what to dress up! Eventually he asked me for suggestions…all the suggestion I had in my mind weren’t appropriate for a 10-year-old to wear. Anxiety?! Depression?! Frustration?! 3 AM thoughts?! Regrets?! Now when I see posts of my friends who used to be hyped about their pumpkin and witchy costumes back in the Halloween party it hurts. Many of them are still wearing the invisible scary costumes of the things that can’t be spoken but are common. The spiders crawling on our pillows wrapping the web of worries of the future. We can’t sleep anymore not because we think there is a monster under our bed but because we know it resides in us and we can’t get away with it.
