Extension of Man
While coming home I was listening to Stephen West's podcast. As it is impossible to understand the whole concept given by McLuhan in 1 hour, one thought really struck me to the core. McLuhan states that "a light bulb creates an environment by its mere presence. He describes the light bulb as a medium without any content. Somehow my tiny mind could understand his statements as a 5 year old kid does. I am confused, if the tools that we use in our daily life are extensions of ourselves then is the nature part of it too? Or just the things that are created by humans? But how happy would I be to know that sky is an extension of my eyes...and everything I look around is an extension of me?
